Rifftrax (2006)

Rifftrax
Created by Michael J. Nelson

A Rifftrax is a comedy audio commentary track. You sync up the commentary track with the movie and as the movie plays, you get jokes that go in time with the movie.

What can I say other than enjoy the videos and have a laugh.

Spider-Man (2002)

Spider-Man (2002)
Directed by Sam Raimi
Written by David Koepp

My introduction to Spider-Man was not through the comic books but through the animated series that was on from 1994 but still, when I heard that there was going to be a movie by the guy that did the Evil Dead movies, I was interested to say the least but I still waited for the movie to come out on DVD.

What can I say about Spider-Man other than the rifftrax that you can get for the movie is hillarious and makes the movie more that the light comedy and action to just a full blown comedy.

But overall, the movie's good with both a good villian and a good first step for the trilogy (Not counting the remake here)

Ultimate Spider-Man (2000 - 2009 - Present)

Ultimate Spider-Man (2000 - Present)
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Pencillers: Mark Bagley (Issue 1 - Issue 111, USM Requiem) , Stuart Immonen (Issue 111 - Issue 133, USM Requiem) and currently David Lafuente and Takeshi Miyazawa.

I found Ultimate Spider-Man sitting in a local newsagents and I had some spare change so I bought it and not only did I like the artwork I liked the storytelling. At the time I was the same age as the character in the strip and I was the social outcast that Peter Parker was in the strip without the cool spider powers.

This comic book is if you take away all the fancy terms and the backstory that this series has created it comes down to something simple. It's a reimagining of The Amazing Spider-Man by ditching The Amazing Spider-Man's history and starting again on Day 1 Page 1 and starting again, utilising that backlog of stories but giving them a modern twist where you can have all sorts of interesting stories.

With stories happening inside Ultimate Spider-Man also having serious blows to the rest of the Ultimate Universe which contains Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four and also The Ultimate's Universe version of the Avengers known as The Ultimates.

Star Wars - Episode IV - Revisited (2007)

Star Wars - Episode IV - Revisited (2007)
Written by George Lucas
Directed by George Lucas
Revisited by Adywan

This version of Star Wars is the version that should have been released in 1997 or in 2004. Adywan went through the special editions that were released in 2004 and improved the special effects in some scenes, removed the special effects in others, restoring them back to the original edition of the movie and in my opinion generally making a far more enjoyable version of Star Wars A New Hope.

While this movie is also an inspiration. It also motivates me to try and give my projects the glossyness of this version of Star Wars A New Hope.

Star Wars (1977)

Star Wars (1977)
Written and Directed by George Lucas

I don't know when I first saw Star Wars all I know is that I liked it to keep watching it again and again and again and again. I loved watching it for the thrill of watching X-Wings and Tie Fighters duking it out over the surface of the Death Star. As the first caption tells you, It's Along Time Ago, In A Galaxy, Far, Far away...

A Star Wars Deleted Scene
Luke & Biggs

Although, George Lucas has never been happy with the original cut of Star Wars, it doesn't stop him going back and adding things, taking things out, making Han Solo Shoot SECOND!!! (Fury!!!) but still, some people like to see the original.

Still there's another version of Star Wars: Episode 4: A New Hope I like which I'll talk about next.

Stargate SG-1 (1997)

Stargate SG-1 (1997 - 2007)
Created by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner

Stargate SG-1 is the adaptation of the movie Stargate. For Ten Years it had entertained the Sci-Fi world with numerous quips from most of the cast, stories that were both full of action and character points generally the atmosphere that of fun with both seriousness and comedy stuck together as shown with the below clip with two of the characters stuck in a time loop and they have to find a way to break out of it.

Stargate SG-1 has also had a string of successful spin-offs in Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe which I'll talk about later.

The best bits of SG-1 is when it gives small bursts of humor and still continues with the seriousness.

Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

Star Trek: First Contact
Directed by Jonathan Frakes

Star Trek again but with a good reason, with this and Wrath of Khan and the latest J.J. Abrams movie, these make up some of the best Star Trek movies (personally). What makes Star Trek: First Contact a good movie. It's more of the action, the personal turmoil for Picard dealing with his mortal enemy, The Borg.

The best cliffhanger in any Star Trek series
(Note: The Video above does not contain the proper cliffhanger. Originally it would have ended with Picard/Locutus's sentence ending and leaving a brilliant piece of music)

With each scene, the oppression of the Borg grows as they take more and more of the Enterprise, it's once brightly lit interiors are turned dark and against the crew, driving Picard to more dangerous lengths to defeat the Borg, with a total outsider to the crew of the Enterprise, giving a parallel to what's happening with Picard to Captain Ahab

With this movie there appeared to be hope for the future of Star Trek, yet a few Feature adventures later it looked as if it was flushed down the toilet with one movie where the tagline, "A Generaton's Final Journey Begins..." turned out to be more true than they would belive.
